Why is membership important?
The Bible speaks of both the local and universal church. The universal church is composed of all those God has saved. The local church is a congregation who meets in a particular community. Local churches are formed by a group of baptized believers who have made a covenant before God and with fellow believers. Scripture instructs all believers to participate with a local church which requires membership.

Bible verses to consider:
The Apostles planted congregations in each city – Acts 20:17, Titus 1:5.
The local church is responsible for believers spiritual growth – Hebrews 13:17
Christians are to follow the leadership of a local church – 1 Peter 5:2-3
Believers are to subject themselves to one another – Ephesians 5:21
Christians are encouraged to continue meeting together – Hebrews 10:25
